Narrative:

We were given instruction to taxi to runway 28 via txwys G and F. We referenced our taxi charts before we left the gate. As we taxied out on taxiway G we followed an airbus and a dash-8. The first officer advised me I had the radios, while she completed the before takeoff checklist. She was instructing the flight attendants to be seated for takeoff. I continued on taxiway G behind the airbus and dash-8 and missed my left turn onto taxiway F. This being the first time at the airport I followed both aircraft across runway 28. The ground controller informed us we had crossed an active runway without permission. He then said turn left on taxiway U to the end of runway 28. The closest airplane was on a 3-4 mi final. No evasive action was taken or necessary.
