Narrative:

The incident occurred at rst. I was flying a cessna skyhawk 172. After landing on runway 31, I was instructed by the tower to exit runway 31 on taxiway A6 and to proceed to the service ramp and remain on the tower frequency. I taxied on taxiway A6 to taxiway a. There appeared to be a moderate amount of GA ramp activity in close proximity to taxiway H. A B727 was positioned on the west end of the service ramp facing to the northwest. A ramp person was standing approximately 75-100 ft in front of the B727 in close proximity to taxiway K. No other ramp personnel were in the vicinity. While I slowly taxied on taxiway A6 and taxiway a, I carefully observed the ramp person to ensure that he was not making any hand signals to the B727 or to me. Not observing any hand signals from the ramp person and believing that the B727 was not going to taxi, I exited taxiway a via taxiway J and entered the service ramp approximately 200 ft behind the B727. At that instant, the B727 started to taxi. The jetblast tipped my C172 onto its right wingtip and caused the propeller to strike the tarmac. After shutting down the engine, I notified the tower of the incident. There was a prompt response by the fire department and ramp personnel. The C172 and righted and towed to the hangar without further incident. There were no injuries.

Title: C172 ENCOUNTERS JETBLAST BEHIND B727 DEPARTING THE GATE AT RST. PROP STRIKE OCCURS WHEN C172 TILTS ONTO R WING.

Narrative: THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT RST. I WAS FLYING A CESSNA SKYHAWK 172. AFTER LNDG ON RWY 31, I WAS INSTRUCTED BY THE TWR TO EXIT RWY 31 ON TXWY A6 AND TO PROCEED TO THE SVC RAMP AND REMAIN ON THE TWR FREQ. I TAXIED ON TXWY A6 TO TXWY A. THERE APPEARED TO BE A MODERATE AMOUNT OF GA RAMP ACTIVITY IN CLOSE PROX TO TXWY H. A B727 WAS POSITIONED ON THE W END OF THE SVC RAMP FACING TO THE NW. A RAMP PERSON WAS STANDING APPROX 75-100 FT IN FRONT OF THE B727 IN CLOSE PROX TO TXWY K. NO OTHER RAMP PERSONNEL WERE IN THE VICINITY. WHILE I SLOWLY TAXIED ON TXWY A6 AND TXWY A, I CAREFULLY OBSERVED THE RAMP PERSON TO ENSURE THAT HE WAS NOT MAKING ANY HAND SIGNALS TO THE B727 OR TO ME. NOT OBSERVING ANY HAND SIGNALS FROM THE RAMP PERSON AND BELIEVING THAT THE B727 WAS NOT GOING TO TAXI, I EXITED TXWY A VIA TXWY J AND ENTERED THE SVC RAMP APPROX 200 FT BEHIND THE B727. AT THAT INSTANT, THE B727 STARTED TO TAXI. THE JETBLAST TIPPED MY C172 ONTO ITS R WINGTIP AND CAUSED THE PROP TO STRIKE THE TARMAC. AFTER SHUTTING DOWN THE ENG, I NOTIFIED THE TWR OF THE INCIDENT. THERE WAS A PROMPT RESPONSE BY THE FIRE DEPT AND RAMP PERSONNEL. THE C172 AND RIGHTED AND TOWED TO THE HANGAR WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.
