Narrative:

Upon arrival at gate in ZZZ, line maintenance informed us of a left inbound tire blowout. Upon postflt inspection, this was confirmed. After maintenance did an inspection, engine damage was confirmed. We received no indications from the tower that the tire had failed nor that there was engine damage. We also contacted ground control about tire material that was possibly on the runway or the txwys. More details: we experienced a normal flight from start to finish. The first officer informed me that he did a preflight and that the tires were safe for flight. No abnormalities were felt in any phase of taxi or flight nor were there any indications that there was any engine abnormality. When we arrived at the gate in ZZZ, the line maintenance personnel noticed the tire and the damage. I wrote up that the tire (left inboard) had failed. After calling maintenance from the hotel, they informed me that there was possible engine and fuselage damage. After inspections were done and I awakened, I again called company maintenance. They told me only engine damage had occurred, not fuselage damage. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated that he could not talk about the incident. The reporter stated that he did not know when the tire failed and the engine damage was incurred.
