Narrative:

Back taxied into position and hold on runway 10 at mbpv. We were cleared for takeoff. I saw a private plane (bonanza) on the runway, to the side heading towards us and told tower there was a plane on the runway. There was a short pause and tower told other plane he was supposed to have been holding short at the other end of the airport. Plane cleared runway and we took off. First officer did not see plane. Plane was sandy brown and low and blended in with the background. If I had not seen him, we probably would have aborted or possibly would have seen him going under our left wing on the roll. This is another one for the database because this plane was not crossing our path, rather 'sneaking' up the side of the runway. He was on the frequency and didn't say anything when we were cleared for takeoff.

Title: A B757 CAPT RPTED THAT, AFTER BEING CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 10 BY MBPV TWR, THAT HE DETECTED A SMALL GA ACFT BACK TAXIING TOWARD HIM ON THE SAME RWY.

Narrative: BACK TAXIED INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 10 AT MBPV. WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. I SAW A PVT PLANE (BONANZA) ON THE RWY, TO THE SIDE HDG TOWARDS US AND TOLD TWR THERE WAS A PLANE ON THE RWY. THERE WAS A SHORT PAUSE AND TWR TOLD OTHER PLANE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN HOLDING SHORT AT THE OTHER END OF THE ARPT. PLANE CLRED RWY AND WE TOOK OFF. FO DID NOT SEE PLANE. PLANE WAS SANDY BROWN AND LOW AND BLENDED IN WITH THE BACKGROUND. IF I HAD NOT SEEN HIM, WE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE ABORTED OR POSSIBLY WOULD HAVE SEEN HIM GOING UNDER OUR L WING ON THE ROLL. THIS IS ANOTHER ONE FOR THE DATABASE BECAUSE THIS PLANE WAS NOT XING OUR PATH, RATHER 'SNEAKING' UP THE SIDE OF THE RWY. HE WAS ON THE FREQ AND DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING WHEN WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF.
