Narrative:

We were taxiing on taxiway B to runway 25R. Prior to taxiway F, I switched to tower frequency. Tower controller asked whether we could accept the intersection F for departure. I responded no, we needed the full length. Tower controller cleared us to taxi full length, then cleared us for takeoff. We needed 1 more min for the required engine warm-up time (8 mins) so I informed him that we needed 1 min. He proceeded to berate us, telling me I should have told the ground controller that we needed this additional time, etc. I apologized and assured him we would next time. Tower then canceled our takeoff clearance, but at no time did he cancel the instruction to taxi into position and hold. The captain and I concurred on this fact prior to our entering the active runway 25R. After this verbal confrontation, the captain taxied the aircraft into position on runway 25R. Meanwhile, the tower controller had cleared another aircraft (B737) into position runway 25R from intersection F. At this point the captain and I thought that some communication breakdown had occurred as this appeared to be an unusual takeoff confign. I believe that the controller had forgotten to instruct us to hold short of runway 25R after he canceled the takeoff clearance. I told the tower controller that we were ready for takeoff in sequence. He then began another flood of angry berating words, instructing us not to take off. Then he began lecturing me about how we had messed up his entire takeoff sequence. I again apologized and assured him we would not take off. Approximately 3 mins later, we were cleared for takeoff without further incident. I believe that had I told the ground controller that we needed an additional min for engine warm-up none of this scenario would have occurred. I believe that the tower controller became so consumed with the fact that we had not done this, he mistakenly did not ask us to hold short.

Title: B767 CREW APCHING RWY 25R FOR TKOF SWITCH TO TWR AND ARE CLRED FOR TKOF BEFORE BEING ABLE TO ADVISE THE LCL CTLR THEY WOULD NEED 1 MIN BEFORE TKOF.

Narrative: WE WERE TAXIING ON TXWY B TO RWY 25R. PRIOR TO TXWY F, I SWITCHED TO TWR FREQ. TWR CTLR ASKED WHETHER WE COULD ACCEPT THE INTXN F FOR DEP. I RESPONDED NO, WE NEEDED THE FULL LENGTH. TWR CTLR CLRED US TO TAXI FULL LENGTH, THEN CLRED US FOR TKOF. WE NEEDED 1 MORE MIN FOR THE REQUIRED ENG WARM-UP TIME (8 MINS) SO I INFORMED HIM THAT WE NEEDED 1 MIN. HE PROCEEDED TO BERATE US, TELLING ME I SHOULD HAVE TOLD THE GND CTLR THAT WE NEEDED THIS ADDITIONAL TIME, ETC. I APOLOGIZED AND ASSURED HIM WE WOULD NEXT TIME. TWR THEN CANCELED OUR TKOF CLRNC, BUT AT NO TIME DID HE CANCEL THE INSTRUCTION TO TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD. THE CAPT AND I CONCURRED ON THIS FACT PRIOR TO OUR ENTERING THE ACTIVE RWY 25R. AFTER THIS VERBAL CONFRONTATION, THE CAPT TAXIED THE ACFT INTO POS ON RWY 25R. MEANWHILE, THE TWR CTLR HAD CLRED ANOTHER ACFT (B737) INTO POS RWY 25R FROM INTXN F. AT THIS POINT THE CAPT AND I THOUGHT THAT SOME COM BREAKDOWN HAD OCCURRED AS THIS APPEARED TO BE AN UNUSUAL TKOF CONFIGN. I BELIEVE THAT THE CTLR HAD FORGOTTEN TO INSTRUCT US TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 25R AFTER HE CANCELED THE TKOF CLRNC. I TOLD THE TWR CTLR THAT WE WERE READY FOR TKOF IN SEQUENCE. HE THEN BEGAN ANOTHER FLOOD OF ANGRY BERATING WORDS, INSTRUCTING US NOT TO TAKE OFF. THEN HE BEGAN LECTURING ME ABOUT HOW WE HAD MESSED UP HIS ENTIRE TKOF SEQUENCE. I AGAIN APOLOGIZED AND ASSURED HIM WE WOULD NOT TAKE OFF. APPROX 3 MINS LATER, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I BELIEVE THAT HAD I TOLD THE GND CTLR THAT WE NEEDED AN ADDITIONAL MIN FOR ENG WARM-UP NONE OF THIS SCENARIO WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. I BELIEVE THAT THE TWR CTLR BECAME SO CONSUMED WITH THE FACT THAT WE HAD NOT DONE THIS, HE MISTAKENLY DID NOT ASK US TO HOLD SHORT.
