Narrative:

Kitfox model iv, pilot (me) and a passenger were landing runway 30 heilig field, scottsbluff, northeast. The aircraft seemed to have an inordinately high sink rate on final approach. I added some power and back stick, but aircraft touched down right after start of pavement of runway 30, striking the central REIL with the right wheel. The light was broken off and my right landing gear broken. The run out was relatively uneventful down the centerline till the wing lost lift and then the right side dropped and the aircraft came to rest on the right edge of the runway. There was no injury, and really not any violence in the mechanics of the incident. I had just changed to shortened wings 2 or 3 flts earlier and I am certain that had much to do with the unusually degraded lift. My normal approach technique was inadequate, in both speed and power, for those shorter wings.

Title: KITFOX IV PLT LANDED SHORT OF AN 8279 FT RWY, HIT A RWY LIGHT OR APCH LIGHT WITH THE R WHEEL. THIS COLLAPSED THE R LNDG GEAR. THE ACFT CAME TO REST ON THE RWY EDGE.

Narrative: KITFOX MODEL IV, PLT (ME) AND A PAX WERE LNDG RWY 30 HEILIG FIELD, SCOTTSBLUFF, NE. THE ACFT SEEMED TO HAVE AN INORDINATELY HIGH SINK RATE ON FINAL APCH. I ADDED SOME PWR AND BACK STICK, BUT ACFT TOUCHED DOWN RIGHT AFTER START OF PAVEMENT OF RWY 30, STRIKING THE CENTRAL REIL WITH THE R WHEEL. THE LIGHT WAS BROKEN OFF AND MY R LNDG GEAR BROKEN. THE RUN OUT WAS RELATIVELY UNEVENTFUL DOWN THE CTRLINE TILL THE WING LOST LIFT AND THEN THE R SIDE DROPPED AND THE ACFT CAME TO REST ON THE R EDGE OF THE RWY. THERE WAS NO INJURY, AND REALLY NOT ANY VIOLENCE IN THE MECHS OF THE INCIDENT. I HAD JUST CHANGED TO SHORTENED WINGS 2 OR 3 FLTS EARLIER AND I AM CERTAIN THAT HAD MUCH TO DO WITH THE UNUSUALLY DEGRADED LIFT. MY NORMAL APCH TECHNIQUE WAS INADEQUATE, IN BOTH SPD AND PWR, FOR THOSE SHORTER WINGS.
