Narrative:

ECAM hot brakes on climb out FL200. As directed by ECAM slowed to 250 KTS and extended landing gear. Aircraft weight was a heavy 160000 pounds. Vertical speed minimum selectable speed was 228 KTS. Maximum gear retraction speed is 220 KTS. After gear was extended I realized I could not slow down enough to retract the gear to comply with the placarded speed of 220 KTS. Gear was raised at approximately 230 KTS. I feel the ECAM led us into this trap. There should have been mention of the maximum gear retraction speed as part of the procedure, but as PIC I am responsible to obey all placarded limits.

Narrative: ECAM HOT BRAKES ON CLBOUT FL200. AS DIRECTED BY ECAM SLOWED TO 250 KTS AND EXTENDED LNDG GEAR. ACFT WT WAS A HVY 160000 LBS. VERT SPD MINIMUM SELECTABLE SPD WAS 228 KTS. MAX GEAR RETRACTION SPD IS 220 KTS. AFTER GEAR WAS EXTENDED I REALIZED I COULD NOT SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO RETRACT THE GEAR TO COMPLY WITH THE PLACARDED SPD OF 220 KTS. GEAR WAS RAISED AT APPROX 230 KTS. I FEEL THE ECAM LED US INTO THIS TRAP. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MENTION OF THE MAX GEAR RETRACTION SPD AS PART OF THE PROC, BUT AS PIC I AM RESPONSIBLE TO OBEY ALL PLACARDED LIMITS.
