Narrative:

The airplane lost alternator power in cruise flight. I was in touch with des moines approach and requested clearance to des moines. I was cleared to land runway 5 at dsm. On final approach, the radio and transponder failed. The landing gear also failed to extend. I overflew the runway and executed a missed approach. Back at altitude, I extended the landing gear using the emergency gear extension system. I then proceeded back into the pattern, cleared the approach path visually, and landed without incident on runway 5. I proceeded to taxi to the GA ramp to troubleshoot the problem.
