Narrative:

Ip (intermediate pressure) valve malfunction caused unrecoverable rollback/failure of left engine. Engine shutdown per ECAM direction. Single engine uneventful landing accomplished. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the cause of the unrecoverable rollback was the failure of the intermediate pressure valve. The reporter said the engine was shut down per the ECAM directions. The reporter stated the manufacturer is making modifications to this valve to eliminate the rollback problems.

Title: AN AIRBUS 320 ON APCH AT 6000 FT HAD AN UNRECOVERABLE #1 ENG ROLLBACK AND WAS SHUT DOWN. CAUSED BY AN INTERMEDIATE PRESSURE VALVE MALFUNCTION.

Narrative: IP (INTERMEDIATE PRESSURE) VALVE MALFUNCTION CAUSED UNRECOVERABLE ROLLBACK/FAILURE OF L ENG. ENG SHUTDOWN PER ECAM DIRECTION. SINGLE ENG UNEVENTFUL LNDG ACCOMPLISHED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE CAUSE OF THE UNRECOVERABLE ROLLBACK WAS THE FAILURE OF THE INTERMEDIATE PRESSURE VALVE. THE RPTR SAID THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN PER THE ECAM DIRECTIONS. THE RPTR STATED THE MANUFACTURER IS MAKING MODIFICATIONS TO THIS VALVE TO ELIMINATE THE ROLLBACK PROBS.
