Narrative:

The turnoff to taxiway D5 off runway 16R has no turn off lights. It's not a CAT ii/III runway, so I do not think it is required to have them, but it is very easy to mistake the blue runway edge lights for turn off lights. As I was landing and rolling out I almost did that and asked the first officer about it. He agreed and said that his captain about a week before almost lined up on them and hit them. That got my attention so I asked another first officer a week later and he said his captain about a month earlier did the same thing. We might have a problem here, someone should look at this area at night and compare with the other runways. I can't believe I have never seen this same problem on runway 16L and at the F4 turn off. Does it have lights (green) mounted in the concrete? Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: callback with reporter revealed that pilots are so use to taxiway centerline lights on runway 16L at den, that they are expecting them to be on runway 16R. Also, there is an unusual amount of cement and the taxiway edge lights appear to be placed in the surface of the cement which resembles taxiway centerline lights, the reporter has also talked to many other pilots who have run into the same situation on this particular runway.

Title: A B737 CAPT IS CONCERNED THAT THE TXWY EDGE LIGHTS ON RWY 16R AT DEN ARE EASILY CONFUSED FOR TXWY CTRLINE LIGHTS.

Narrative: THE TURNOFF TO TXWY D5 OFF RWY 16R HAS NO TURN OFF LIGHTS. IT'S NOT A CAT II/III RWY, SO I DO NOT THINK IT IS REQUIRED TO HAVE THEM, BUT IT IS VERY EASY TO MISTAKE THE BLUE RWY EDGE LIGHTS FOR TURN OFF LIGHTS. AS I WAS LNDG AND ROLLING OUT I ALMOST DID THAT AND ASKED THE FO ABOUT IT. HE AGREED AND SAID THAT HIS CAPT ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE ALMOST LINED UP ON THEM AND HIT THEM. THAT GOT MY ATTENTION SO I ASKED ANOTHER FO A WK LATER AND HE SAID HIS CAPT ABOUT A MONTH EARLIER DID THE SAME THING. WE MIGHT HAVE A PROB HERE, SOMEONE SHOULD LOOK AT THIS AREA AT NIGHT AND COMPARE WITH THE OTHER RWYS. I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS SAME PROB ON RWY 16L AND AT THE F4 TURN OFF. DOES IT HAVE LIGHTS (GREEN) MOUNTED IN THE CONCRETE? CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: CALLBACK WITH RPTR REVEALED THAT PLTS ARE SO USE TO TXWY CTRLINE LIGHTS ON RWY 16L AT DEN, THAT THEY ARE EXPECTING THEM TO BE ON RWY 16R. ALSO, THERE IS AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF CEMENT AND THE TXWY EDGE LIGHTS APPEAR TO BE PLACED IN THE SURFACE OF THE CEMENT WHICH RESEMBLES TXWY CTRLINE LIGHTS, THE RPTR HAS ALSO TALKED TO MANY OTHER PLTS WHO HAVE RUN INTO THE SAME SITUATION ON THIS PARTICULAR RWY.
