Narrative:

I purchased the aircraft and did not realize that the incorrect crankshaft had been installed. Had the annual inspection performed by a&P, ia, and signed off as airworthy before I took possession of the airplane. After flying several occasions (without incident), I found in the engine logbook that the engine had the wrong crankshaft installed a few yrs ago. The entry in the logbook had been made, but diligence in examining the exact wording would have prevented the airplane from being operated until the engine was in compliance. As the owner/operator, it is ultimately my responsibility to know the airworthiness of the aircraft, and I will always be clear on any log entries in the future.
