Narrative:

Feb/sun/04, cleared to land on runway 34 at ric approximately XA30. Landed and on rollout were told to hold short of runway 2 on runway 34. As we approached the end of runway 34, tower again told us to hold short of runway 2 on runway 34. At that time I saw the hold short marking on runway 34 approaching and came to a stop, with nose of aircraft a few ft past the lahso marking. Tower continued to land traffic on runway 2 so we assumed we were ok. We were not told to hold short with landing clearance so we expected to roll to the end. About 1/2 way down the runway 34 is when we were given the hold short instructions. Had we been cleared to 'land and hold short' I feel sure this would not have been a problem as I would have been looking for and slowed by the marking. There were no safety of flight incidents caused by this to any other aircraft.

Title: AFTER LNDG AND ON ROLLOUT, AN A310 CREW WAS INSTRUCTED TO HOLD SHORT OF THE XING RWY NEAR THE END OF THE RWY.

Narrative: FEB/SUN/04, CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 34 AT RIC APPROX XA30. LANDED AND ON ROLLOUT WERE TOLD TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 2 ON RWY 34. AS WE APCHED THE END OF RWY 34, TWR AGAIN TOLD US TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 2 ON RWY 34. AT THAT TIME I SAW THE HOLD SHORT MARKING ON RWY 34 APCHING AND CAME TO A STOP, WITH NOSE OF ACFT A FEW FT PAST THE LAHSO MARKING. TWR CONTINUED TO LAND TFC ON RWY 2 SO WE ASSUMED WE WERE OK. WE WERE NOT TOLD TO HOLD SHORT WITH LNDG CLRNC SO WE EXPECTED TO ROLL TO THE END. ABOUT 1/2 WAY DOWN THE RWY 34 IS WHEN WE WERE GIVEN THE HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS. HAD WE BEEN CLRED TO 'LAND AND HOLD SHORT' I FEEL SURE THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A PROB AS I WOULD HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR AND SLOWED BY THE MARKING. THERE WERE NO SAFETY OF FLT INCIDENTS CAUSED BY THIS TO ANY OTHER ACFT.
