Narrative:
I was receiving dual instruction from a CFI in an aircraft I was unfamiliar with. The europa uses a unique tailwheel/monowheel/outrigger landing gear confign described as 'requiring better than average skill' by my instructor. On several landing rollouts we made 10-20 degree departures from centerline. I am very familiar with tailwheel operations, but was having a hard time controling the plane. On the last landing, the instructor told me 'brake! Brake! Brake!' then finally applied the brake himself (it is a hand brake located between the seats). The aircraft tipped up and hit the propeller. We shut down, got out and pushed the plane off the runway. In retrospect, I think I should have used a pilot more familiar with the idiosyncrasies of this unique aircraft.

Title: A EUROPA PLT WITH A FLT INSTRUCTOR HAVE A PROP STRIKE AFTER THE FLT INSTRUCTOR TAKES OVER AND APPLIES THE BRAKES.
Narrative: I WAS RECEIVING DUAL INSTRUCTION FROM A CFI IN AN ACFT I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH. THE EUROPA USES A UNIQUE TAILWHEEL/MONOWHEEL/OUTRIGGER LNDG GEAR CONFIGN DESCRIBED AS 'REQUIRING BETTER THAN AVERAGE SKILL' BY MY INSTRUCTOR. ON SEVERAL LNDG ROLLOUTS WE MADE 10-20 DEG DEPS FROM CTRLINE. I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH TAILWHEEL OPS, BUT WAS HAVING A HARD TIME CTLING THE PLANE. ON THE LAST LNDG, THE INSTRUCTOR TOLD ME 'BRAKE! BRAKE! BRAKE!' THEN FINALLY APPLIED THE BRAKE HIMSELF (IT IS A HAND BRAKE LOCATED BTWN THE SEATS). THE ACFT TIPPED UP AND HIT THE PROP. WE SHUT DOWN, GOT OUT AND PUSHED THE PLANE OFF THE RWY. IN RETROSPECT, I THINK I SHOULD HAVE USED A PLT MORE FAMILIAR WITH THE IDIOSYNCRASIES OF THIS UNIQUE ACFT.
