Narrative:

30 mins into our morning flight to ZZZ, flight attendant #2 and I noticed a strange sound, and felt a vibration under our feet in the galley. It sounded like a steady, rhythmic (periodic) grinding sound. Like it sounds when the cargo is being pushed around when we are on the ground. We notified the captain and first officer. The first officer was sent back to identify the noise. He also could not tell what it was. The captain determined we should turn around and go back to lax. Flight attendant #2 and I also felt the vibration near doors 2L/right, under the floor carpeting. We landed without incident -- passenger were calm. It was later determined that the aft cargo door seal was defective.
