Narrative:

After takeoff, got an EICAS 'leading edge slat disagree' when attempting to bring flaps from position 1 degree to up. Flap indicator showed halfway between up and flaps 1 degree and had leading edge caution. Kept aircraft below 240 KTS and maximum altitude of 20000 ft. Ran leading edge slat disagree irregular procedure -- did not help. Contacted dispatch and maintenance controller and decided to return to bwi and land overweight. Completed leading edge slat asymmetry procedure and landed 1 hour 2 mins after takeoff. Flaps 20 degrees, vref 172 KTS, landing weight 225000 pounds. Landing uneventful.
