Narrative:

About 1 hour after departure, we were going over a band of thunderheads. The cockpit crew thought we were in the clear above them, but we were not and we hit a big bump and in less than a second later we dropped over 200 ft in less than 1/2 second. All the crew were in the aisle and everyone came off the floor. We were very lucky, all passenger were buckled in. The flight attendants in the very back of the airplane hit the ceiling and the inserts of beverages on top of the cart came down on top of them as they lay on the floor. I hit the ceiling of the md-11 twice in 3 weeks in 1991 so I knew it was about to happen so I tucked into a ball to make myself shorter. I hurt my back and right knee but I didn't hit the ceiling. The aircraft I had, flew apart and all the glass, china, metal serving pieces flew up in the air and the cart collapsed. The glass and china on the passenger's trays flew off in the air and hit the right side wall. We had moderate to heavy turbulence for about another 30 mins and off and on the rest of the way home. Supplemental information from acn 605293: it was followed by more fairly severe turbulence, but no more drops in altitude. Supplemental information from acn 605804: the captain never asked if any of us wanted to go back to rjaa. Most of the flight attendants would have voted to turn back to rjaa. Some passenger, after we arrived in ZZZ, did not want to continue on their connecting flts, they were too upset. To have everyone continue for 7 1/2 hours after such an ordeal is unacceptable.

Title: 4 B777 FLT ATTENDANTS RPTED ON A SEVERE TURB ENCOUNTER DURING A FLT FROM RJAA.

Narrative: ABOUT 1 HR AFTER DEP, WE WERE GOING OVER A BAND OF THUNDERHEADS. THE COCKPIT CREW THOUGHT WE WERE IN THE CLR ABOVE THEM, BUT WE WERE NOT AND WE HIT A BIG BUMP AND IN LESS THAN A SECOND LATER WE DROPPED OVER 200 FT IN LESS THAN 1/2 SECOND. ALL THE CREW WERE IN THE AISLE AND EVERYONE CAME OFF THE FLOOR. WE WERE VERY LUCKY, ALL PAX WERE BUCKLED IN. THE FLT ATTENDANTS IN THE VERY BACK OF THE AIRPLANE HIT THE CEILING AND THE INSERTS OF BEVERAGES ON TOP OF THE CART CAME DOWN ON TOP OF THEM AS THEY LAY ON THE FLOOR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 605293: IT WAS FOLLOWED BY MORE FAIRLY SEVERE TURB, BUT NO MORE DROPS IN ALT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 605804: THE CAPT NEVER ASKED IF ANY OF US WANTED TO GO BACK TO RJAA. MOST OF THE FLT ATTENDANTS WOULD HAVE VOTED TO TURN BACK TO RJAA. SOME PAX, AFTER WE ARRIVED IN ZZZ, DID NOT WANT TO CONTINUE ON THEIR CONNECTING FLTS, THEY WERE TOO UPSET. TO HAVE EVERYONE CONTINUE FOR 7 1/2 HRS AFTER SUCH AN ORDEAL IS UNACCEPTABLE.
