Narrative:

At FL380 approximately 90 NM east of the fix nippi on 220 degree radial, the #4 engine decreased to idle thrust. We obtained descent clearance to FL360 from tyo radio. We reviewed/performed all abnormal procedures. We contacted dispatch and maintenance control and with their concurrence, continued to nrt. On final approach to runway 16R at nrt, the #4 engine further degraded, so we performed precautionary engine shutdown checklist. Landing and taxi-in were normal. En route and destination WX was excellent.
