Narrative:

We departed smx and entered the pattern at L52. There were no other aircraft in the pattern. There was no response on unicom frequency (not unusual at small airports). There were no X's on the runways. We made a normal landing on runway 29. There were some people visible on the field but they paid no attention to us. We exited the runway and taxied back to runway 29 for departure, but found the entrance to the runway blocked with orange cones. Since the wind was calm, we taxied to the other end (runway 11) for departure. As we announced our intention to depart on unicom, an aircraft flying overhead responded and asked if the airport was open, as he had heard there was a NOTAM that it was closed. We had seen no indication it was closed and departed runway 11. I had gotten a briefing before departing for smx, but had not asked for NOTAMS regarding L52 since I didn't know we were going there. My instructor said he had gotten a briefing including L52 and had been given no NOTAMS regarding the airport. We should have checked with FSS before leaving smx for L52.

Title: PLT OF C182 AND HIS INSTRUCTOR LAND AND THEN TAKE OFF AT UNCTLED L52 NOTAMED AS CLOSED. HAD NOT RECEIVED AN FSS BRIEF REGARDING L52 AS IT WAS NOT ON THEIR ORIGINAL ITINERARY.

Narrative: WE DEPARTED SMX AND ENTERED THE PATTERN AT L52. THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT IN THE PATTERN. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE ON UNICOM FREQ (NOT UNUSUAL AT SMALL ARPTS). THERE WERE NO X'S ON THE RWYS. WE MADE A NORMAL LNDG ON RWY 29. THERE WERE SOME PEOPLE VISIBLE ON THE FIELD BUT THEY PAID NO ATTN TO US. WE EXITED THE RWY AND TAXIED BACK TO RWY 29 FOR DEP, BUT FOUND THE ENTRANCE TO THE RWY BLOCKED WITH ORANGE CONES. SINCE THE WIND WAS CALM, WE TAXIED TO THE OTHER END (RWY 11) FOR DEP. AS WE ANNOUNCED OUR INTENTION TO DEPART ON UNICOM, AN ACFT FLYING OVERHEAD RESPONDED AND ASKED IF THE ARPT WAS OPEN, AS HE HAD HEARD THERE WAS A NOTAM THAT IT WAS CLOSED. WE HAD SEEN NO INDICATION IT WAS CLOSED AND DEPARTED RWY 11. I HAD GOTTEN A BRIEFING BEFORE DEPARTING FOR SMX, BUT HAD NOT ASKED FOR NOTAMS REGARDING L52 SINCE I DIDN'T KNOW WE WERE GOING THERE. MY INSTRUCTOR SAID HE HAD GOTTEN A BRIEFING INCLUDING L52 AND HAD BEEN GIVEN NO NOTAMS REGARDING THE ARPT. WE SHOULD HAVE CHKED WITH FSS BEFORE LEAVING SMX FOR L52.
