Narrative:

I was put into hto radar associate position approximately 1 min prior to error. I was on landline coordinating other aircraft information with ZDC when event took place. When I hung up the line, I glanced at the radar scope and the 2 aircraft were in conflict alert. The radar associate controller at sardi (32) said they received an altitude report from B737. DC10 was on the frequency of the sector I was the radar associate at. I found out the next day it was an error.
