Narrative:
I was doing my 3 full stop taxi-backs in a controled airspace. I mentioned to the tower that I was a student. The ATC switched personnel and on final a C172 was taxiing on the active runway. I believed he was on a touch-and-go, which he was, and through a miscom with the tower, I proceeded to land a safe distance behind the C172. The tower instructed me to remain on the runway until the plane had cleared. I did so. I then proceeded to my base airport.

Title: PA28 STUDENT PLT LANDS ON OCCUPIED RWY AT YIP ARPT.
Narrative: I WAS DOING MY 3 FULL STOP TAXI-BACKS IN A CTLED AIRSPACE. I MENTIONED TO THE TWR THAT I WAS A STUDENT. THE ATC SWITCHED PERSONNEL AND ON FINAL A C172 WAS TAXIING ON THE ACTIVE RWY. I BELIEVED HE WAS ON A TOUCH-AND-GO, WHICH HE WAS, AND THROUGH A MISCOM WITH THE TWR, I PROCEEDED TO LAND A SAFE DISTANCE BEHIND THE C172. THE TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO REMAIN ON THE RWY UNTIL THE PLANE HAD CLRED. I DID SO. I THEN PROCEEDED TO MY BASE ARPT.
