Narrative:

En route to rvs, ferrying just purchased aircraft, diverted to tonapah, nv, because of WX. Quick turn and in the climb was distraction by both nose gear and heater problems. As I was working with these problems I noticed from my WAC chart that I was nearing restr area and turned ese. Very unfamiliar with this area and very distraction by the 2 problems. I looked up and saw an air force base and knew that I had not turned enough. At that time I turned south to avoid and tuned in 121.50. Intercepted almost immediately by 2 F-16's. I tried to contact aircraft without success. Contacted within a couple of mins by nellis and advised to meet approach on another frequency. I advised nellis of the problems and distrs, and asked for immediate vectors. He gave me multiple vectors, and then led us over las. Spoke to discrete frequency and answered all questions of manager on duty. No doubt I strayed into the airspace because of unfamiliarity with area and the distraction from the 2 problems on board the aircraft after having left original flight plan because of WX. After noticing my error I corrected course to keep away from a now known airport and acted with due diligence to contact and find help from controling agency. I should have flight planned the leg from tonapah much better and should have turned back to the airport when we noticed on the map of the restr area. I, however, thought we had turned enough east to avoid. The map was at the bottom of the page at this point and, because of the distraction, did not go to the next map soon enough.

Title: A PA23 SINGLE PLT, DISTR BY ACFT PROBS, WAS INTERCEPTED BY 2 F16'S AFTER VIOLATING LSV'S AIRSPACE.

Narrative: ENRTE TO RVS, FERRYING JUST PURCHASED ACFT, DIVERTED TO TONAPAH, NV, BECAUSE OF WX. QUICK TURN AND IN THE CLB WAS DISTR BY BOTH NOSE GEAR AND HEATER PROBS. AS I WAS WORKING WITH THESE PROBS I NOTICED FROM MY WAC CHART THAT I WAS NEARING RESTR AREA AND TURNED ESE. VERY UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS AREA AND VERY DISTR BY THE 2 PROBS. I LOOKED UP AND SAW AN AIR FORCE BASE AND KNEW THAT I HAD NOT TURNED ENOUGH. AT THAT TIME I TURNED S TO AVOID AND TUNED IN 121.50. INTERCEPTED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY BY 2 F-16'S. I TRIED TO CONTACT ACFT WITHOUT SUCCESS. CONTACTED WITHIN A COUPLE OF MINS BY NELLIS AND ADVISED TO MEET APCH ON ANOTHER FREQ. I ADVISED NELLIS OF THE PROBS AND DISTRS, AND ASKED FOR IMMEDIATE VECTORS. HE GAVE ME MULTIPLE VECTORS, AND THEN LED US OVER LAS. SPOKE TO DISCRETE FREQ AND ANSWERED ALL QUESTIONS OF MGR ON DUTY. NO DOUBT I STRAYED INTO THE AIRSPACE BECAUSE OF UNFAMILIARITY WITH AREA AND THE DISTR FROM THE 2 PROBS ON BOARD THE ACFT AFTER HAVING LEFT ORIGINAL FLT PLAN BECAUSE OF WX. AFTER NOTICING MY ERROR I CORRECTED COURSE TO KEEP AWAY FROM A NOW KNOWN ARPT AND ACTED WITH DUE DILIGENCE TO CONTACT AND FIND HELP FROM CTLING AGENCY. I SHOULD HAVE FLT PLANNED THE LEG FROM TONAPAH MUCH BETTER AND SHOULD HAVE TURNED BACK TO THE ARPT WHEN WE NOTICED ON THE MAP OF THE RESTR AREA. I, HOWEVER, THOUGHT WE HAD TURNED ENOUGH E TO AVOID. THE MAP WAS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE AT THIS POINT AND, BECAUSE OF THE DISTR, DID NOT GO TO THE NEXT MAP SOON ENOUGH.
