Narrative:

My aircraft was parked opposite and to the right of another aircraft tied down in a grass parking area. After start-up I moved forward and pushed hard on the left rudder so as to pass by that aircraft and enter the paved taxiway. My aircraft did not respond and turn as rapidly as normally and I was unable to brake to a stop before striking the right wing of the other aircraft. Perhaps I did not react as quickly as I should have to have averted any damage. I am 73 yrs old, hold a third class medical certificate and a current BFR, have been flying for 39 yrs and have 220O hours in the same airplane that I damaged. This incident has not made me believe I am no longer a safe and competent pilot. However, it has made me decide that I will no longer fly unless there is another qualified pilot in the r-hand seat.
