Narrative:

During a lesson for a pre-private pilot, I had to declare minimum fuel and return to tulsa riverside airport. We took off with 15 1/2 gals of fuel which is enough for 2 1/2 hours of flight. In order to complete the lesson we were on, I had to have my student redo some of the maneuvers in order to get them within the standards. I was not paying attention to the time we were spending and did not realize how low on fuel we were until we were returning to the airport. As soon as I noticed the situation, I took over the controls and declared minimum fuel with tulsa approach. Tulsa gave me a direct path to riverside and had me contact riverside tower. Riverside tower cleared me to land on runway 19L with the option of any runway. I maintained a higher than normal pattern and approach and landed safely on runway 19L. When we parked the aircraft, I dipped the tanks and saw 1/2 gal on the right side and 1 gal on the left side.

I WAS NOT PAYING ATTN TO THE TIME WE WERE SPENDING AND DID NOT REALIZE HOW LOW ON FUEL WE WERE UNTIL WE WERE RETURNING TO THE ARPT. AS SOON AS I NOTICED THE SIT, I TOOK OVER THE CTLS AND DECLARED MINIMUM FUEL WITH TULSA APCH. TULSA GAVE ME A DIRECT PATH TO RIVERSIDE AND HAD ME CONTACT RIVERSIDE TWR. RIVERSIDE TWR CLRED ME TO LAND ON RWY 19L WITH THE OPTION OF ANY RWY. I MAINTAINED A HIGHER THAN NORMAL PATTERN AND APCH AND LANDED SAFELY ON RWY 19L. WHEN WE PARKED THE ACFT, I DIPPED THE TANKS AND SAW 1/2 GAL ON THE R SIDE AND 1 GAL ON THE L SIDE.
