Narrative:

Taxiing outbound at ZZZ on taxiway 'X' north of 'xx' simultaneously lost steering/brakes, and received two ECAM msgs indicating failure of steering/brakes and flight control. Aircraft veered left and almost left taxiway. Brakes returned and abruptly stopped injuring all three flight attendants. After restoring steering and brakes, returned to gate. Maintenance control (ZZZ) told me the next day that #1B steering control unit failed and did not allow backup #2B steering control unit to kick in. Flight attendants were released from hospital with contusions and 1 cracked rib. Callback conversation with reporter acn 596872 revealed the following information: the reporter stated when taxiing received two ECAM msgs indicating failure of the nose gear steering and brakes, which was no false warning. The reporter said the aircraft veered to the left and prior to leaving the taxiway the brakes were applied abruptly injuring three cabin attendants. The reporter stated the entire braking system had failed, #1 brake steering control unit failed and #2 brake steering control unit was not switched in to control brakes or steering. The reporter said this is a fleet problem and knows of three incidents involving brake steering control units in this carrier. The reporter also stated being aware of at least five service difficulty reports on this system filed by other part 121 carriers. The reporter said the injuries to the three flight attendants were contusions and one cracked rib.
