Narrative:

During cruise at FL310, the #2 engine made 2 very loud compressor stalls. Power was immediately brought back to 70% and the stalls stopped. Over ZZZ VOR, we then diverted to ZZZ1. The engine continued to run at a reduced power setting the entire flight. An emergency was declared. A normal landing, rollout and taxi to ZZZ1 gate was also made.

Title: A DC9-30 IN CRUISE AT FL310 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO R ENG COMPRESSOR STALLS. ENG OPERATED AT 70% PWR. CAUSE UNKNOWN.

Narrative: DURING CRUISE AT FL310, THE #2 ENG MADE 2 VERY LOUD COMPRESSOR STALLS. PWR WAS IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT BACK TO 70% AND THE STALLS STOPPED. OVER ZZZ VOR, WE THEN DIVERTED TO ZZZ1. THE ENG CONTINUED TO RUN AT A REDUCED PWR SETTING THE ENTIRE FLT. AN EMER WAS DECLARED. A NORMAL LNDG, ROLLOUT AND TAXI TO ZZZ1 GATE WAS ALSO MADE.
