Narrative:

I have submitted numerous as soon as possible reports concerning the problem with the rest seat on the B767 and the lack of rest we get these days on it. The latest development is that on several occasions cockpit crew members have opted to sleep in the cockpit because they get no rest in the rest seat. The crew members in question have put suitcases in front of the door adjacent to the B767 center jumpseat to create a bed. A seatbelt cannot be worn while they sleep in this fashion. This is of great concern to me because if we were to hit turbulence there is a possibility that the sleeping crew member could interfere with the operation of the aircraft by landing on the operating pilots or the flight controls. Beyond safety concerns it then makes the situation very awkward to go back to the lavatory or even just get something to eat or drink because they block the door. That said, I deeply sympathize with a desire to get rest and perhaps the tradeoff for a possible safety incident or inconvenience is worth it to have a rested crew member. The real solution is to fix the rest seat problem by moving it to xa and blocking the adjacent seat.

Title: CLAIMING INADEQUATE CREW REST FACILITATES FOR LONG RANGE FLTS IN THE B767 CREWS ARE SLEEPING IN THE COCKPIT AS A BETTER OPTION IN SPITE OF THE POSSIBLE HAZARDS CREATED.

Narrative: I HAVE SUBMITTED NUMEROUS ASAP RPTS CONCERNING THE PROB WITH THE REST SEAT ON THE B767 AND THE LACK OF REST WE GET THESE DAYS ON IT. THIS IS OF GREAT CONCERN TO ME BECAUSE IF WE WERE TO HIT TURB THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE SLEEPING CREW MEMBER COULD INTERFERE WITH THE OP OF THE ACFT BY LNDG ON THE OPERATING PLTS OR THE FLT CTLS. BEYOND SAFETY CONCERNS IT THEN MAKES THE SIT VERY AWKWARD TO GO BACK TO THE LAVATORY OR EVEN JUST GET SOMETHING TO EAT OR DRINK BECAUSE THEY BLOCK THE DOOR. THAT SAID, I DEEPLY SYMPATHIZE WITH A DESIRE TO GET REST AND PERHAPS THE TRADEOFF FOR A POSSIBLE SAFETY INCIDENT OR INCONVENIENCE IS WORTH IT TO HAVE A RESTED CREW MEMBER. THE REAL SOLUTION IS TO FIX THE REST SEAT PROB BY MOVING IT TO XA AND BLOCKING THE ADJACENT SEAT.
