Narrative:

Received aircraft from inbound crew with brake temperature monitoring system deferred. I had contacted company maintenance to see why the system had been deferred. They felt the system was giving an erroneous high temperature. As we started to taxi it took an exceptional amount of power to brake-away and we hadn't rolled very far when the temperature of #3 brake began to increase. The first officer and I began to discuss whether we were having a brake problem. I asked him to check airport analysis for the gradient of the taxiway. About the time he found the correct page, ground control queries, 'where are you going?' we had gotten so involved with the brake problem we'd taxied through an intersection (J). We were supposed to hold short.

Title: B737 FLT CREW HAS A TXWY INCURSION AT LGA.

Narrative: RECEIVED ACFT FROM INBOUND CREW WITH BRAKE TEMP MONITORING SYS DEFERRED. I HAD CONTACTED COMPANY MAINT TO SEE WHY THE SYS HAD BEEN DEFERRED. THEY FELT THE SYS WAS GIVING AN ERRONEOUS HIGH TEMP. AS WE STARTED TO TAXI IT TOOK AN EXCEPTIONAL AMOUNT OF PWR TO BRAKE-AWAY AND WE HADN'T ROLLED VERY FAR WHEN THE TEMP OF #3 BRAKE BEGAN TO INCREASE. THE FO AND I BEGAN TO DISCUSS WHETHER WE WERE HAVING A BRAKE PROB. I ASKED HIM TO CHK ARPT ANALYSIS FOR THE GRADIENT OF THE TXWY. ABOUT THE TIME HE FOUND THE CORRECT PAGE, GND CTL QUERIES, 'WHERE ARE YOU GOING?' WE HAD GOTTEN SO INVOLVED WITH THE BRAKE PROB WE'D TAXIED THROUGH AN INTXN (J). WE WERE SUPPOSED TO HOLD SHORT.
