Narrative:

We were at FL330 cleared to FL270. Started descent. At FL320 we were told by ATC to climb to FL330 at which time we also received a TA for traffic at FL310. Promptly climbed to FL330. ATC then gave us 'descend to FL230 at no less than 2500 FPM.' we started the descent and then received an RA for FL310 traffic (2 different aircraft) to reduce our descent rate to approximately 1000 FPM followed by ATC giving climb back up to FL330 instructions which we did. ATC remarked that he realized the problem as 2 similar call signs on the frequency. We later called the ATC facility and the controller said he gave us the clrncs that he meant for the other aircraft with a similar call sign and that we responded correctly to his clrncs.

Title: A B757 FLT CREW IS ASSIGNED AN ALT CHANGE 2 SEPARATE TIMES THAT CREATED A POTENTIAL CONFLICT WITH OPPOSITE DIRECTION TFC ON FREQ WITH ZOB.

Narrative: WE WERE AT FL330 CLRED TO FL270. STARTED DSCNT. AT FL320 WE WERE TOLD BY ATC TO CLB TO FL330 AT WHICH TIME WE ALSO RECEIVED A TA FOR TFC AT FL310. PROMPTLY CLBED TO FL330. ATC THEN GAVE US 'DSND TO FL230 AT NO LESS THAN 2500 FPM.' WE STARTED THE DSCNT AND THEN RECEIVED AN RA FOR FL310 TFC (2 DIFFERENT ACFT) TO REDUCE OUR DSCNT RATE TO APPROX 1000 FPM FOLLOWED BY ATC GIVING CLB BACK UP TO FL330 INSTRUCTIONS WHICH WE DID. ATC REMARKED THAT HE REALIZED THE PROB AS 2 SIMILAR CALL SIGNS ON THE FREQ. WE LATER CALLED THE ATC FACILITY AND THE CTLR SAID HE GAVE US THE CLRNCS THAT HE MEANT FOR THE OTHER ACFT WITH A SIMILAR CALL SIGN AND THAT WE RESPONDED CORRECTLY TO HIS CLRNCS.
