Narrative:

We departed slc at XA56Z on runway 35 using the sevyr one departure. The conditions of the day were clear skies, 10 mi visibility. The clearance was the departure up to 8000 ft. We departed, climbed to 500 ft AGL, turned left to a 260 degree heading. I contacted departure on the 260 degree heading. Climbing through approximately 6000 ft the 193 degree radial came alive so we stared our turn. The call to departure was made in the turn indicating our climb to 8000 ft and turn to the 193 degree radial. The response was climb to 10000 ft and repeat last transmission. I verified up to 10000 ft and our turn on the 193 degree radial. Departure told us return to 260 degree heading and there is rising terrain to the south. I acknowledged the transmission and was asked to contact departure on the land line when I arrived at destination. We remained on the 260 degree heading, passing through the 193 degree radial and re-intercepting the radial from the west. The rest of the flight was uneventful. Supplemental information from acn 587096: this deviation was caused by misinterp of SID. Misinterp occurred due to pictorial showing flight path following heading 260 degrees to slc 193 degree radial, when it actually should have crossed 193 degree radial and continued. Textual description was clear, but pictorial led us to believe we needed to turn onto 193 degree radial. PNF helped limit deviation by reporting turn to 193 degree radial to ATC, which then idented deviation immediately.

Narrative: WE DEPARTED SLC AT XA56Z ON RWY 35 USING THE SEVYR ONE DEP. THE CONDITIONS OF THE DAY WERE CLR SKIES, 10 MI VISIBILITY. THE CLRNC WAS THE DEP UP TO 8000 FT. WE DEPARTED, CLBED TO 500 FT AGL, TURNED L TO A 260 DEG HDG. I CONTACTED DEP ON THE 260 DEG HDG. CLBING THROUGH APPROX 6000 FT THE 193 DEG RADIAL CAME ALIVE SO WE STARED OUR TURN. THE CALL TO DEP WAS MADE IN THE TURN INDICATING OUR CLB TO 8000 FT AND TURN TO THE 193 DEG RADIAL. THE RESPONSE WAS CLB TO 10000 FT AND REPEAT LAST XMISSION. I VERIFIED UP TO 10000 FT AND OUR TURN ON THE 193 DEG RADIAL. DEP TOLD US RETURN TO 260 DEG HDG AND THERE IS RISING TERRAIN TO THE S. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE XMISSION AND WAS ASKED TO CONTACT DEP ON THE LAND LINE WHEN I ARRIVED AT DEST. WE REMAINED ON THE 260 DEG HDG, PASSING THROUGH THE 193 DEG RADIAL AND RE-INTERCEPTING THE RADIAL FROM THE W. THE REST OF THE FLT WAS UNEVENTFUL. TEXTUAL DESCRIPTION WAS CLR, BUT PICTORIAL LED US TO BELIEVE WE NEEDED TO TURN ONTO 193 DEG RADIAL. PNF HELPED LIMIT DEV BY RPTING TURN TO 193 DEG RADIAL TO ATC, WHICH THEN IDENTED DEV IMMEDIATELY.
