Narrative:

While preparing for our flight, the flight attendants alerted us to a possible discrepancy with one of the cabin door sight glasses (an item recently added to their cabin preflight). Being a new item, they and I were unsure as to whether it was necessary to be written up. I called maintenance control and they did not direct me to write it up, but said they would send a technician to look at it. The technician was a little unsure as to the status of this particular item as it was not wholly blocked. A line supervisor and line lead technician also came to look at it. During this time the aircraft was being boarded with passenger. The lead technician seemed to indicate the blockage was not sufficient to write up and by group consensus we agreed to accept the aircraft. The group being: 2 flight deck crew members, 2 cabin crew members, a line technician, a lead line technician, and a line supervisor. On return to the hub the condition had worsened and I wrote it up.
