Narrative:

Our flight was rerouted by ATC over pnt V227 plano ord to avoid WX southeast of ord. We were given a spacing turn to the southwest which placed us on collision course with a small cell. We requested an immediate turn and were told to expect a turn in 90 seconds. We responded that it would be too late and again requested a turn. ATC would not reply and as we approached the cell, we were cleared right turn direct to ord. The turn was too late and we had a 10-15 second encounter with severe turbulence. The autoplt disconnected and our altitude deviated by 300-400 ft with fluctuating airspeed. We reported the encounter to ATC with no response. A second report attempt was met only with a query from another flight about our location. The 3RD report attempt was answered by ATC saying he did not have time to deal with it. No other flight was informed of the turbulence. We submitted a report via ACARS to company and made a maintenance log entry. Maintenance met the flight and debriefed me and I was also debriefed by company via phone. This report concludes the incident.

Title: AN ERJ FLT CREW IS UNABLE TO GET A TURN IN TIME FROM ARTCC TO AVOID ENTERING A CELL RESULTING IN ENCOUNTERING SEVERE TURB.

Narrative: OUR FLT WAS REROUTED BY ATC OVER PNT V227 PLANO ORD TO AVOID WX SE OF ORD. WE WERE GIVEN A SPACING TURN TO THE SW WHICH PLACED US ON COLLISION COURSE WITH A SMALL CELL. WE REQUESTED AN IMMEDIATE TURN AND WERE TOLD TO EXPECT A TURN IN 90 SECONDS. WE RESPONDED THAT IT WOULD BE TOO LATE AND AGAIN REQUESTED A TURN. ATC WOULD NOT REPLY AND AS WE APCHED THE CELL, WE WERE CLRED R TURN DIRECT TO ORD. THE TURN WAS TOO LATE AND WE HAD A 10-15 SECOND ENCOUNTER WITH SEVERE TURB. THE AUTOPLT DISCONNECTED AND OUR ALT DEVIATED BY 300-400 FT WITH FLUCTUATING AIRSPD. WE RPTED THE ENCOUNTER TO ATC WITH NO RESPONSE. A SECOND RPT ATTEMPT WAS MET ONLY WITH A QUERY FROM ANOTHER FLT ABOUT OUR LOCATION. THE 3RD RPT ATTEMPT WAS ANSWERED BY ATC SAYING HE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO DEAL WITH IT. NO OTHER FLT WAS INFORMED OF THE TURB. WE SUBMITTED A RPT VIA ACARS TO COMPANY AND MADE A MAINT LOG ENTRY. MAINT MET THE FLT AND DEBRIEFED ME AND I WAS ALSO DEBRIEFED BY COMPANY VIA PHONE. THIS RPT CONCLUDES THE INCIDENT.
