Made precautionary landing at 42C. Airport is closed for runway enlargement. Landing surface was not disturbed. Area around runway has been evacuate/evacuationed. No work being done at time of landing. No one around at time of landing. Overflew runway 3 times to inspect condition of landing area. Determined to be safe for landing. Landed, inspected exhaust system to check for integrity and determined all was fine. (Had been noticing a hot smell and needed to check it out.) left airport for 30-45 mins, then returned. Note was left by someone that they would report my n-number to FAA. Departed runway with no problems, returned to home field with no further issues.
