Narrative:

Washington ADIZ clearance for traffic pattern work requires a discrete squawk. Manassas tower assigned the code of XXXX. I was test flying my newly acquired aircraft. Additionally, I was rusty as I hadn't flown in 4 months (other than once around the pattern when I received this aircraft a couple of weeks ago). I set the code of XXXX into the transponder. However, I neglected to turn the transponder from standby to altitude reporting during the entire time I was in the pattern (approximately 30-45 mins). Tower didn't say anything. Next time, I'll be sure to cover this item in my before takeoff checklist.
