Narrative:

While holding on runway 32R for departure, all 3 of us heard the tower controller say, 'air carrier X, turn to heading 070 degrees, cleared for takeoff runway 32R.' I acknowledged and read back the clearance. As the first officer was pushing the power up, the relief pilot noticed a potential conflict with air carrier Y departing on runway 9L. I immediately aborted and turned off runway 32R at taxiway H. The controller said he didn't clear us for takeoff. Abort speed was approximately 30 KTS. After departure, we received a message from dispatch from the FAA stating that the controller had erred and had cleared us for takeoff. Kudos to the relief pilot for clearing while the first officer and I were setting power and thereby turning what could have been a close call into a much lesser event.
