Narrative:

Upon the showing of a small spattering of oil on the windshield I informed gray approach that I had a problem and that I was returning to burnet. Within moments the windshield was completely covered by a thick film of oil and completely obscured. I informed gray that I was making an off field landing. I immediately pulled the propeller lever out to full pitch to shut off the oil to the propeller governor as called for in the operating handbook. Next I surveyed the area and selected a place to land. I made a left circling approach to keep the site in view as long as possible. Using side vision I made a soft landing and applied all the braking action available. I did not feel the right flap impact a fence post. No one was hurt. Damage to the airplane was minimal. In the 2 mins or less that this took place the engine lost 3 of 7 quarts of oil. The cause of the problem turned out to be the connection of the oil system to the propeller governor. The 2 bolts holding the oil line fitting to the back of the governor had backed off slightly and allowed the seal to fail.
