Narrative:

We had just cleared ewr's airspace to the north and contacted mmu tower for landing. We had a TCASII advisory for traffic at our altitude. We were unable to get a visual. At this point, we were 3.5 mi from mmu (to the south). There was no TA from the tower. Suddenly, the captain saw the traffic and made a violent evasive maneuver above the traffic approaching from our right. I asked the tower if he was aware of a twin in his airspace that almost hit us. He was not aware of any traffic. Mmu does have BRITE radar. In the future, we will 1) react faster to TCASII advisories and make altitude adjustments while looking for traffic. 2) the mmu tower needs to be more aware of this traffic and possible airspace violators.

I ASKED THE TWR IF HE WAS AWARE OF A TWIN IN HIS AIRSPACE THAT ALMOST HIT US. HE WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY TFC. MMU DOES HAVE BRITE RADAR. IN THE FUTURE, WE WILL 1) REACT FASTER TO TCASII ADVISORIES AND MAKE ALT ADJUSTMENTS WHILE LOOKING FOR TFC. 2) THE MMU TWR NEEDS TO BE MORE AWARE OF THIS TFC AND POSSIBLE AIRSPACE VIOLATORS.
