Narrative:

Aircraft made a normal approach for landing to runway 9R mia. Captain was flying and first officer was working radio. As so, I read and accomplished before landing checklist. Aircraft made a smooth landing in touchdown zone at a vref +10 speed of 152 KTS, with a weight of 162500 pounds (1500 pounds below maximum landing weight). After landing, captain raised the speed brake/ground spoilers and reached to put engines in reverse, when suddenly the forward momentum of aircraft was violently reduced and airframe began to shutter. A right brake anti-skid REIL light illuminated, followed shortly by a left anti-skid REIL light. Captain elected not to put engines in reverse thrust and aircraft was stopped on centerline runway 9R approximately 20 ft past hold short line for runway 12. The tower informed us that our right wheelwell was on fire and notified fire department which responded quickly and extinguished the fire. All 4 main gear tires had disintegrated and rims damaged. I suspect brakes locked shortly after shutdown for unknown reason. Neither captain or first officer applied any brakes. Supplemental information from acn 580490: upon smooth touchdown all main landing gear tires came apart. Emergency equipment called, fire extinguished. Crew fatigue was not a factor. I could have called for emergency equipment sooner.

Title: A B727-200 CARGO FLT BLOWS ALL SETS OF TIRES UPON LNDG AT MIA, FL.

Narrative: ACFT MADE A NORMAL APCH FOR LNDG TO RWY 9R MIA. CAPT WAS FLYING AND FO WAS WORKING RADIO. AS SO, I READ AND ACCOMPLISHED BEFORE LNDG CHKLIST. ACFT MADE A SMOOTH LNDG IN TOUCHDOWN ZONE AT A VREF +10 SPD OF 152 KTS, WITH A WT OF 162500 LBS (1500 LBS BELOW MAX LNDG WT). AFTER LNDG, CAPT RAISED THE SPD BRAKE/GND SPOILERS AND REACHED TO PUT ENGS IN REVERSE, WHEN SUDDENLY THE FORWARD MOMENTUM OF ACFT WAS VIOLENTLY REDUCED AND AIRFRAME BEGAN TO SHUTTER. A R BRAKE ANTI-SKID REIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED, FOLLOWED SHORTLY BY A L ANTI-SKID REIL LIGHT. CAPT ELECTED NOT TO PUT ENGS IN REVERSE THRUST AND ACFT WAS STOPPED ON CTRLINE RWY 9R APPROX 20 FT PAST HOLD SHORT LINE FOR RWY 12. THE TWR INFORMED US THAT OUR R WHEELWELL WAS ON FIRE AND NOTIFIED FIRE DEPT WHICH RESPONDED QUICKLY AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. ALL 4 MAIN GEAR TIRES HAD DISINTEGRATED AND RIMS DAMAGED. I SUSPECT BRAKES LOCKED SHORTLY AFTER SHUTDOWN FOR UNKNOWN REASON. NEITHER CAPT OR FO APPLIED ANY BRAKES. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 580490: UPON SMOOTH TOUCHDOWN ALL MAIN LNDG GEAR TIRES CAME APART. EMER EQUIP CALLED, FIRE EXTINGUISHED. CREW FATIGUE WAS NOT A FACTOR. I COULD HAVE CALLED FOR EMER EQUIP SOONER.
