Narrative:

Generator #2 went off-line (generator #2 amber message on EICAS) on departure. I (first officer) performed the QRH checklist. While I was searching on the index page for the page for the 'generator 2' checklist, I noticed that at the bottom of the first page of the QRH index page said 'generator 1' checklist. I turned to this page and executed the 'generator 1' QRH checklist which calls to reset generator 1. I should have turned the index page, at which I could find the 'generator 2' QRH page which was the correct checklist. While turning off the generator 1, the air driven generator (APU) deployed. (The APU generator was also turned off during the 'after takeoff checklist.') I realized what happened and that I turned off the good generator. I informed the captain who was flying and reset both generators which came back on line. The captain declared an emergency when he heard the air driven generator deploy and we received vectors back to runway 19R. Landing was made without accident. What I learned is that before you FLIP a switch, I need to verify it with the other crew member. Also, I need to make sure I have the right checklist. It would have been nice to have 2 very familiar checklists on 1 index page so the chance of executing the wrong checklist would be reduced significantly, during a very high workload situation for the first officer.

Title: CL65 HAS GENERATOR FAILURE DURING DEP.

Narrative: GENERATOR #2 WENT OFF-LINE (GENERATOR #2 AMBER MESSAGE ON EICAS) ON DEP. I (FO) PERFORMED THE QRH CHKLIST. WHILE I WAS SEARCHING ON THE INDEX PAGE FOR THE PAGE FOR THE 'GENERATOR 2' CHKLIST, I NOTICED THAT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FIRST PAGE OF THE QRH INDEX PAGE SAID 'GENERATOR 1' CHKLIST. I TURNED TO THIS PAGE AND EXECUTED THE 'GENERATOR 1' QRH CHKLIST WHICH CALLS TO RESET GENERATOR 1. I SHOULD HAVE TURNED THE INDEX PAGE, AT WHICH I COULD FIND THE 'GENERATOR 2' QRH PAGE WHICH WAS THE CORRECT CHKLIST. WHILE TURNING OFF THE GENERATOR 1, THE AIR DRIVEN GENERATOR (APU) DEPLOYED. (THE APU GENERATOR WAS ALSO TURNED OFF DURING THE 'AFTER TKOF CHKLIST.') I REALIZED WHAT HAPPENED AND THAT I TURNED OFF THE GOOD GENERATOR. I INFORMED THE CAPT WHO WAS FLYING AND RESET BOTH GENERATORS WHICH CAME BACK ON LINE. THE CAPT DECLARED AN EMER WHEN HE HEARD THE AIR DRIVEN GENERATOR DEPLOY AND WE RECEIVED VECTORS BACK TO RWY 19R. LNDG WAS MADE WITHOUT ACCIDENT. WHAT I LEARNED IS THAT BEFORE YOU FLIP A SWITCH, I NEED TO VERIFY IT WITH THE OTHER CREW MEMBER. ALSO, I NEED TO MAKE SURE I HAVE THE RIGHT CHKLIST. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE 2 VERY FAMILIAR CHKLISTS ON 1 INDEX PAGE SO THE CHANCE OF EXECUTING THE WRONG CHKLIST WOULD BE REDUCED SIGNIFICANTLY, DURING A VERY HIGH WORKLOAD SIT FOR THE FO.
