Narrative:
I was released by oma departure to leave mle. I tuned to 123.0 CTAF too late, and did not see the other aircraft on final for runway 12. I entered the approach end of runway 12 to take off, and the landing aircraft was forced to go around. I wanted to clear the runway, waited until I thought the second aircraft was clear enough, and I took off. I apologized on the frequency and the other pilot (understandably upset) said 'I don't want to talk to the...I'm calling the fed.' I decided to report the incident. Pilot factors: I believe I was preoccupied with my mother's terminal illness (my reason to stop, I was thinking about a minor maintenance issue before takeoff, and I am rusty on procedures at non-twred airports. I tuned the CTAF too late before takeoff, and missed whatever position call that might have been made by the landing aircraft. I am going to thoroughly review procedures at non-twred airports with my cfii.

Title: C182 PLT ENTERED RWY 12 AT MLE IN FRONT OF A LNDG PA28. THE PA28 HAD TO GO AROUND.
Narrative: I WAS RELEASED BY OMA DEP TO LEAVE MLE. I TUNED TO 123.0 CTAF TOO LATE, AND DID NOT SEE THE OTHER ACFT ON FINAL FOR RWY 12. I ENTERED THE APCH END OF RWY 12 TO TAKE OFF, AND THE LNDG ACFT WAS FORCED TO GO AROUND. I WANTED TO CLR THE RWY, WAITED UNTIL I THOUGHT THE SECOND ACFT WAS CLR ENOUGH, AND I TOOK OFF. I APOLOGIZED ON THE FREQ AND THE OTHER PLT (UNDERSTANDABLY UPSET) SAID 'I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO THE...I'M CALLING THE FED.' I DECIDED TO RPT THE INCIDENT. PLT FACTORS: I BELIEVE I WAS PREOCCUPIED WITH MY MOTHER'S TERMINAL ILLNESS (MY REASON TO STOP, I WAS THINKING ABOUT A MINOR MAINT ISSUE BEFORE TKOF, AND I AM RUSTY ON PROCS AT NON-TWRED ARPTS. I TUNED THE CTAF TOO LATE BEFORE TKOF, AND MISSED WHATEVER POS CALL THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN MADE BY THE LNDG ACFT. I AM GOING TO THOROUGHLY REVIEW PROCS AT NON-TWRED ARPTS WITH MY CFII.
