Narrative:

On approach to landing at bdl runway 33. Landing gear failed to extend when gear handle was selected to down position. Landing gear was retracted and 2ND attempt was initiated to extend landing gear. On second attempt landing gear did not appear to extend. Tower was asked to verify our gear confign. A low approach, flyby of the tower verified that main gear doors only were open. All gear was in up position. This confirmed gear indications in cockpit (2 red gear main door unsafe lights). One last attempt was made to retract and extend gear which was unsuccessful. Alternate gear extension was performed following abnormal checklist (alternate gear extension). Landing gear extended with all appropriate indications and landing was made on runway 33. Aircraft was taxied to ramp area and no assistance was required. Callback from reporter revealed the following information: this aircraft was a brand new LJ31A aircraft, and was just delivered to the company. After landing, the captain contacted his company. They informed the factory, and a team of mechanics were flown to the airport. They completely redid the factory operational check and made multiple corrections and adjustments. The reporter did not know all that was found. He has flown the aircraft since, and reports it works perfectly.
