Narrative:

Arrived pdk on IFR flight plan, VFR conditions. Airport busy with parallel runways in simultaneous use, cleared to land left side (runway 2L), additional traffic behind me. Uneventful landing -- applied brakes to try and stop before crossing runway. I thought I had stopped aircraft at far edge of taxiway B, had not received any further instructions (regarding takeoff), made immediate turn onto taxiway B (approximately 110 degree turn). I felt this was most expeditious exit from runway -- given extremely tight turning radius of SR22 -- desire not to turn onto crossing runway -- and next taxiway was 'far' down the runway. In middle of my turn to taxiway, tower called to me, seemed to start a taxi clearance and then amended to 'expedite off.' asked to call tower on arrival at FBO. Tower said I should not have done a '180 degree turn' on the runway. Factors: SR22 has poor brakes (difficult to stop). Probably I overjudged my stopping point, SR22 has excellent turn radius, allowing right angle turns. Tower may not be familiar with tight turn radius. May not have expected tight turnoff, not a 180 degrees, but more than 90 degrees to centerline of taxiway (I ended up on right side of taxiway). Tower did not expeditiously give directions on where to turn off, or indicate prior to my stopping aircraft to 'expedite' anywhere. I was 'trying to help' by exiting as quickly as possible, clear to me that immediate turn would have been faster than continuing to next taxiway. Crossing runway was too close for me to quickly turn, unless tower gave me instructions sooner. I do not think I did a reversal on the runway. In the future, I am likely to only taxi forward or off on taxiway lines, even if this slows any following traffic, and let tower deal with it.

Title: SR22 LNDG AT PDK MAKES UNEXPECTED TURN OFF RWY.

Narrative: ARRIVED PDK ON IFR FLT PLAN, VFR CONDITIONS. ARPT BUSY WITH PARALLEL RWYS IN SIMULTANEOUS USE, CLRED TO LAND L SIDE (RWY 2L), ADDITIONAL TFC BEHIND ME. UNEVENTFUL LNDG -- APPLIED BRAKES TO TRY AND STOP BEFORE XING RWY. I THOUGHT I HAD STOPPED ACFT AT FAR EDGE OF TXWY B, HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS (REGARDING TKOF), MADE IMMEDIATE TURN ONTO TXWY B (APPROX 110 DEG TURN). I FELT THIS WAS MOST EXPEDITIOUS EXIT FROM RWY -- GIVEN EXTREMELY TIGHT TURNING RADIUS OF SR22 -- DESIRE NOT TO TURN ONTO XING RWY -- AND NEXT TXWY WAS 'FAR' DOWN THE RWY. IN MIDDLE OF MY TURN TO TXWY, TWR CALLED TO ME, SEEMED TO START A TAXI CLRNC AND THEN AMENDED TO 'EXPEDITE OFF.' ASKED TO CALL TWR ON ARR AT FBO. TWR SAID I SHOULD NOT HAVE DONE A '180 DEG TURN' ON THE RWY. FACTORS: SR22 HAS POOR BRAKES (DIFFICULT TO STOP). PROBABLY I OVERJUDGED MY STOPPING POINT, SR22 HAS EXCELLENT TURN RADIUS, ALLOWING R ANGLE TURNS. TWR MAY NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH TIGHT TURN RADIUS. MAY NOT HAVE EXPECTED TIGHT TURNOFF, NOT A 180 DEGS, BUT MORE THAN 90 DEGS TO CTRLINE OF TXWY (I ENDED UP ON R SIDE OF TXWY). TWR DID NOT EXPEDITIOUSLY GIVE DIRECTIONS ON WHERE TO TURN OFF, OR INDICATE PRIOR TO MY STOPPING ACFT TO 'EXPEDITE' ANYWHERE. I WAS 'TRYING TO HELP' BY EXITING AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, CLR TO ME THAT IMMEDIATE TURN WOULD HAVE BEEN FASTER THAN CONTINUING TO NEXT TXWY. XING RWY WAS TOO CLOSE FOR ME TO QUICKLY TURN, UNLESS TWR GAVE ME INSTRUCTIONS SOONER. I DO NOT THINK I DID A REVERSAL ON THE RWY. IN THE FUTURE, I AM LIKELY TO ONLY TAXI FORWARD OR OFF ON TXWY LINES, EVEN IF THIS SLOWS ANY FOLLOWING TFC, AND LET TWR DEAL WITH IT.
