Narrative:

After DC9 landed on runway 36L, and told to clear runway at taxiway M6, we were cleared for takeoff on runway 36L with no delay due to arriving traffic at 4 mi. As the captain started to line up and began to advance power, we noted that the preceding DC9 had not yet cleared runway 36L. Captain reduced power to idle until DC9 had completely cleared runway 36L prior to advancing power and continuing takeoff. Clearance by tower to takeoff was probably premature as the DC9 was taking longer to clear the runway than apparently tower anticipated.

Title: FLT CREW OF B722 EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF SEPARATION WITH LNDG ACFT WHEN MEM LCL CTLR CLRED THEM FOR TKOF BEFORE PRECEDING LNDG ACFT HAD CLRED THE RWY. CTLR HAD REQUESTED THEY EXPEDITE TKOF DUE TO THIRD ACFT ON 4 MI FINAL.

Narrative: AFTER DC9 LANDED ON RWY 36L, AND TOLD TO CLR RWY AT TXWY M6, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 36L WITH NO DELAY DUE TO ARRIVING TFC AT 4 MI. AS THE CAPT STARTED TO LINE UP AND BEGAN TO ADVANCE PWR, WE NOTED THAT THE PRECEDING DC9 HAD NOT YET CLRED RWY 36L. CAPT REDUCED PWR TO IDLE UNTIL DC9 HAD COMPLETELY CLRED RWY 36L PRIOR TO ADVANCING PWR AND CONTINUING TKOF. CLRNC BY TWR TO TKOF WAS PROBABLY PREMATURE AS THE DC9 WAS TAKING LONGER TO CLR THE RWY THAN APPARENTLY TWR ANTICIPATED.
