Narrative:

It was clear on the ground at cle that we could have a landing weight problem at ord due to fuel. Well prior to the knox VOR, we informed center that we would need either a lower altitude and/or vectors/holding to increase fuel burn. While the controller did give us lower, he told us that we would not need holding as he was going to turn us all over the place. While on vectors, we were all of a sudden given direct ord. We told the controller we could not do that as we still had a landing weight problem. The controller then said he could do nothing about our problem. A few mins later, the controller reconsidered and told us to go to bearz and hold as published. Next, when only 3 mi out from halie, he told us to hold there. While all this was going on, we were also dealing with turbulence and numerous build-ups. Despite the short notice, we were able to enter holding at halie with a parallel entry. Just after completing the outbound entry track and turning back towards halie, the controller made some snippy remark like the next time we went around the holding fix he hoped we would be holding as published. We only had to do time around the pattern and then had the fuel burn to go to ord. Although, in the hold we had to delay our outbound turn slightly as there was a build-up just south of halie that I was not about to put the airplane through.

Title: AN ERJ FLT CREW DELAYED THEIR OUTBOUND TURN IN A HOLD FOR WX WITHOUT TELLING ATC.

Narrative: IT WAS CLR ON THE GND AT CLE THAT WE COULD HAVE A LNDG WT PROB AT ORD DUE TO FUEL. WELL PRIOR TO THE KNOX VOR, WE INFORMED CTR THAT WE WOULD NEED EITHER A LOWER ALT AND/OR VECTORS/HOLDING TO INCREASE FUEL BURN. WHILE THE CTLR DID GIVE US LOWER, HE TOLD US THAT WE WOULD NOT NEED HOLDING AS HE WAS GOING TO TURN US ALL OVER THE PLACE. WHILE ON VECTORS, WE WERE ALL OF A SUDDEN GIVEN DIRECT ORD. WE TOLD THE CTLR WE COULD NOT DO THAT AS WE STILL HAD A LNDG WT PROB. THE CTLR THEN SAID HE COULD DO NOTHING ABOUT OUR PROB. A FEW MINS LATER, THE CTLR RECONSIDERED AND TOLD US TO GO TO BEARZ AND HOLD AS PUBLISHED. NEXT, WHEN ONLY 3 MI OUT FROM HALIE, HE TOLD US TO HOLD THERE. WHILE ALL THIS WAS GOING ON, WE WERE ALSO DEALING WITH TURB AND NUMEROUS BUILD-UPS. DESPITE THE SHORT NOTICE, WE WERE ABLE TO ENTER HOLDING AT HALIE WITH A PARALLEL ENTRY. JUST AFTER COMPLETING THE OUTBOUND ENTRY TRACK AND TURNING BACK TOWARDS HALIE, THE CTLR MADE SOME SNIPPY REMARK LIKE THE NEXT TIME WE WENT AROUND THE HOLDING FIX HE HOPED WE WOULD BE HOLDING AS PUBLISHED. WE ONLY HAD TO DO TIME AROUND THE PATTERN AND THEN HAD THE FUEL BURN TO GO TO ORD. ALTHOUGH, IN THE HOLD WE HAD TO DELAY OUR OUTBOUND TURN SLIGHTLY AS THERE WAS A BUILD-UP JUST S OF HALIE THAT I WAS NOT ABOUT TO PUT THE AIRPLANE THROUGH.
