Narrative:

Flight departed btv XA35 for dca. Approximately XB20, flight attendant advised passenger stuck in lavatory. Sent first officer back to assist flight attendant. First officer returned and reported door to lavatory jammed. Reduced speed and advised ATC. Received radar vectors away from dca area. SELCAL to dispatch. Dispatch advised to divert to phl and authority/authorized force to lavatory door to free passenger from the lavatory. Captain approached lavatory door with male passenger to open door. Finally opened door to lavatory (minor damage to lavatory door). Make passenger returned to seat unharmed. Female passenger free from lavatory and confirmed that she was physically ok and assured her well being. Diverted to phl in at XC17. Called dispatch and maintenance to discuss condition of aircraft lavatory door and continuation of flight to dca.

CAPT APCHED LAVATORY DOOR WITH MALE PAX TO OPEN DOOR. FINALLY OPENED DOOR TO LAVATORY (MINOR DAMAGE TO LAVATORY DOOR). MAKE PAX RETURNED TO SEAT UNHARMED. FEMALE PAX FREE FROM LAVATORY AND CONFIRMED THAT SHE WAS PHYSICALLY OK AND ASSURED HER WELL BEING. DIVERTED TO PHL IN AT XC17. CALLED DISPATCH AND MAINT TO DISCUSS CONDITION OF ACFT LAVATORY DOOR AND CONTINUATION OF FLT TO DCA.
