Narrative:

I was doing a run-up on runway 13 at dvo. After run-up, I moved to a position to see traffic on final and base. I was approximately perpendicular to the runway at the hold short line. I saw traffic turning on base and heard that traffic and another on downwind. I announced I was taking runway 13 for departure and taxied on the runway. An unseen aircraft on final called a 'go around.' I thought I had adequate visibility of any aircraft on final, but obviously did not. A misjudgement. 1 contributing factor is that the run-up area at runway 13 is very small (only about as wide as the taxiway), and it is not possible to do a 360 degree to check for traffic without crossing the hold short line. Runway 31 has a large run-up area and room to do a 360 degree turn to check traffic. This same situation has happened to me on several occasions where I was the pilot having to do the 'go around.'

Title: DEPARTING C172 HAS CONFLICT WITH LNDG J2 AT NON-TWR ARPT.

Narrative: I WAS DOING A RUN-UP ON RWY 13 AT DVO. AFTER RUN-UP, I MOVED TO A POS TO SEE TFC ON FINAL AND BASE. I WAS APPROX PERPENDICULAR TO THE RWY AT THE HOLD SHORT LINE. I SAW TFC TURNING ON BASE AND HEARD THAT TFC AND ANOTHER ON DOWNWIND. I ANNOUNCED I WAS TAKING RWY 13 FOR DEP AND TAXIED ON THE RWY. AN UNSEEN ACFT ON FINAL CALLED A 'GAR.' I THOUGHT I HAD ADEQUATE VISIBILITY OF ANY ACFT ON FINAL, BUT OBVIOUSLY DID NOT. A MISJUDGEMENT. 1 CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IS THAT THE RUN-UP AREA AT RWY 13 IS VERY SMALL (ONLY ABOUT AS WIDE AS THE TXWY), AND IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO DO A 360 DEG TO CHK FOR TFC WITHOUT XING THE HOLD SHORT LINE. RWY 31 HAS A LARGE RUN-UP AREA AND ROOM TO DO A 360 DEG TURN TO CHK TFC. THIS SAME SIT HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE I WAS THE PLT HAVING TO DO THE 'GAR.'
