Narrative:

After completing the leg from phl to dfw, flight abcd on feb/mon/03, and after arriving at the gate, the flight attendant informed me that there was a call for me on the jetbridge phone. I was told by the person on the phone that our next leg from dfw to orf was cancelled, and the first officer and I were scheduled to work flight efgh from dfw to oak. I checked my schedule and noticed that our 3-DAY trip was now a 2-DAY trip and it was not showing as a reassignment or reschedule. I called crew tracking to find out why the dfw to oak leg was not a reassignment or a reschedule, and the tracker informed me that since he could not legally get us to orf to finish the rest of our sequence, that his only obligation was to get us back to base on the next available flight. He then informed me that the first officer and I would be working flight efgh from dfw to oak. After looking at the sequence today, I believe that the dfw to oak leg was a reschedule. Since the phl to dfw leg flying time was 4 hours 34 mins and since adding the newly scheduled dfw to oak leg totaled 8 hours 22MINS before leaving dfw, I believe that we were illegally scheduled to fly more than 8 hours in 1 day when we were required to work the added leg out of dfw.

Title: FLT CREW WORK SCHEDULING PROB WHEN CREW IS REASSIGNED A NEW FLT THAT EXCEEDED THEIR 8 IN 24 RULE. NOTED AFTER LNDG AT OAK, CA.

Narrative: AFTER COMPLETING THE LEG FROM PHL TO DFW, FLT ABCD ON FEB/MON/03, AND AFTER ARRIVING AT THE GATE, THE FLT ATTENDANT INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A CALL FOR ME ON THE JETBRIDGE PHONE. I WAS TOLD BY THE PERSON ON THE PHONE THAT OUR NEXT LEG FROM DFW TO ORF WAS CANCELLED, AND THE FO AND I WERE SCHEDULED TO WORK FLT EFGH FROM DFW TO OAK. I CHKED MY SCHEDULE AND NOTICED THAT OUR 3-DAY TRIP WAS NOW A 2-DAY TRIP AND IT WAS NOT SHOWING AS A REASSIGNMENT OR RESCHEDULE. I CALLED CREW TRACKING TO FIND OUT WHY THE DFW TO OAK LEG WAS NOT A REASSIGNMENT OR A RESCHEDULE, AND THE TRACKER INFORMED ME THAT SINCE HE COULD NOT LEGALLY GET US TO ORF TO FINISH THE REST OF OUR SEQUENCE, THAT HIS ONLY OBLIGATION WAS TO GET US BACK TO BASE ON THE NEXT AVAILABLE FLT. HE THEN INFORMED ME THAT THE FO AND I WOULD BE WORKING FLT EFGH FROM DFW TO OAK. AFTER LOOKING AT THE SEQUENCE TODAY, I BELIEVE THAT THE DFW TO OAK LEG WAS A RESCHEDULE. SINCE THE PHL TO DFW LEG FLYING TIME WAS 4 HRS 34 MINS AND SINCE ADDING THE NEWLY SCHEDULED DFW TO OAK LEG TOTALED 8 HRS 22MINS BEFORE LEAVING DFW, I BELIEVE THAT WE WERE ILLEGALLY SCHEDULED TO FLY MORE THAN 8 HRS IN 1 DAY WHEN WE WERE REQUIRED TO WORK THE ADDED LEG OUT OF DFW.
