Narrative:

A short distance to taxi. A new first officer with limited FMS experience. We received a clearance to taxi down runway 3 to runway 30 that is part of runway 3. When I looked at the plate for some reason I thought the intersection was further down the runway than it was. I got involved with taxi and before takeoff checklist while helping set up the navigation system. I taxied across the active runway and was told by ground I had gone through the active area. No transmission was made to me till after the incursion. An air carrier had to go around. This incursion was totally my fault. My first officer was very busy. I should have taken more time on the ramp to be sure all was set up. First officer is ex-air carrier and does not start a checklist unless asked to do so. We had taxied some distance before I realized this process had not been started. This also put us behind a little and a short taxi just made it worse. Bottom line is I should have been outside, not inside. Supplemental information from acn 572305: the captain was taxiing on a closed runway (runway 3) to depart on runway 30L. He called for a checklist. I put my head down to read the checklist for about 20 seconds. When I completed the checklist I said to the captain 'you're on the runway.' the captain had taxied onto the active runway 30L, and caused an airplane to do a go around. The checklist I ran (before takeoff) requires some heads down checks in the cockpit which prevented me from looking outside at all times.

Title: FALCON 50 FLT CREW HAS RWY INCURSION AT SAT.

Narrative: A SHORT DISTANCE TO TAXI. A NEW FO WITH LIMITED FMS EXPERIENCE. WE RECEIVED A CLRNC TO TAXI DOWN RWY 3 TO RWY 30 THAT IS PART OF RWY 3. WHEN I LOOKED AT THE PLATE FOR SOME REASON I THOUGHT THE INTXN WAS FURTHER DOWN THE RWY THAN IT WAS. I GOT INVOLVED WITH TAXI AND BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST WHILE HELPING SET UP THE NAV SYS. I TAXIED ACROSS THE ACTIVE RWY AND WAS TOLD BY GND I HAD GONE THROUGH THE ACTIVE AREA. NO XMISSION WAS MADE TO ME TILL AFTER THE INCURSION. AN ACR HAD TO GO AROUND. THIS INCURSION WAS TOTALLY MY FAULT. MY FO WAS VERY BUSY. I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN MORE TIME ON THE RAMP TO BE SURE ALL WAS SET UP. FO IS EX-ACR AND DOES NOT START A CHKLIST UNLESS ASKED TO DO SO. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 572305: THE CAPT WAS TAXIING ON A CLOSED RWY (RWY 3) TO DEPART ON RWY 30L. HE CALLED FOR A CHKLIST. I PUT MY HEAD DOWN TO READ THE CHKLIST FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS. WHEN I COMPLETED THE CHKLIST I SAID TO THE CAPT 'YOU'RE ON THE RWY.' THE CAPT HAD TAXIED ONTO THE ACTIVE RWY 30L, AND CAUSED AN AIRPLANE TO DO A GAR. THE CHKLIST I RAN (BEFORE TKOF) REQUIRES SOME HEADS DOWN CHKS IN THE COCKPIT WHICH PREVENTED ME FROM LOOKING OUTSIDE AT ALL TIMES.
