Narrative:

After landing at ams on runway 18C, I exited the runway on taxiway wy. This is not normally the taxiway that I use on that runway, but due to being unusually light landing weight, we stopped much quicker than usual, I did not realize that until after I had entered the taxiway, and noticed that instead of the normal turn to the left to taxi to the gate, it required a right turn. We taxied in without incident and the ground controller did not comment on our location. There wasn't any other traffic in the area. The taxiway has a footnote that 'entrance to taxiway W4 from taxiway west is not permitted.' we entered taxiway west from taxiway W4. I did not see this as a restr for us. Later, I noticed a note stating that after landing on runway 18C stopping at taxiway W4 on runway 18C is not permitted. I did not interpret this as a restr on exiting the runway at taxiway W4, but after thinking about it, I assume that is the meaning of that statement. I assume that this is to prevent opposite direction traffic on taxiway west taxiing to runway 18C for departure. Taxiway W4 is a high speed exit taxiway with green lead-off centerline guidance lighting. The unusual phrasing of this note did not register on me, possible because I was very tired after flying all night and arriving in the early morning darkness.

Title: THE NOTES ON THE AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS SCHIPOL ARPT CHART CAUSE CONFUSION FOR AN ACR PLT AFTER A NIGHT ARR AND AN EARLY TURNOFF ON AN UNFAMILIAR W4 TXWY.

Narrative: AFTER LNDG AT AMS ON RWY 18C, I EXITED THE RWY ON TXWY WY. THIS IS NOT NORMALLY THE TXWY THAT I USE ON THAT RWY, BUT DUE TO BEING UNUSUALLY LIGHT LNDG WT, WE STOPPED MUCH QUICKER THAN USUAL, I DID NOT REALIZE THAT UNTIL AFTER I HAD ENTERED THE TXWY, AND NOTICED THAT INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL TURN TO THE L TO TAXI TO THE GATE, IT REQUIRED A R TURN. WE TAXIED IN WITHOUT INCIDENT AND THE GND CTLR DID NOT COMMENT ON OUR LOCATION. THERE WASN'T ANY OTHER TFC IN THE AREA. THE TXWY HAS A FOOTNOTE THAT 'ENTRANCE TO TXWY W4 FROM TXWY W IS NOT PERMITTED.' WE ENTERED TXWY W FROM TXWY W4. I DID NOT SEE THIS AS A RESTR FOR US. LATER, I NOTICED A NOTE STATING THAT AFTER LNDG ON RWY 18C STOPPING AT TXWY W4 ON RWY 18C IS NOT PERMITTED. I DID NOT INTERPRET THIS AS A RESTR ON EXITING THE RWY AT TXWY W4, BUT AFTER THINKING ABOUT IT, I ASSUME THAT IS THE MEANING OF THAT STATEMENT. I ASSUME THAT THIS IS TO PREVENT OPPOSITE DIRECTION TFC ON TXWY W TAXIING TO RWY 18C FOR DEP. TXWY W4 IS A HIGH SPD EXIT TXWY WITH GREEN LEAD-OFF CTRLINE GUIDANCE LIGHTING. THE UNUSUAL PHRASING OF THIS NOTE DID NOT REGISTER ON ME, POSSIBLE BECAUSE I WAS VERY TIRED AFTER FLYING ALL NIGHT AND ARRIVING IN THE EARLY MORNING DARKNESS.
