Narrative:

At cruise, I smelled an electrical odor. The flight attendants also smelled it, and stated that it was worse in the aft cabin. I subsequently got an equipment cooling overhead light and EICAS message. We ran the appropriate checklist and when 'altn' was selected on the equipment tooling panel, the electrical smell got worse in the cockpit. I declared an emergency and diverted to kmem. After clearing the runway and conferring with the fire marshall, I taxied to the gate. The fire marshal inspected the aircraft visually and with an infrared sensor. There was no damage to the aircraft and no injuries to any crew member or passenger.

Title: A B757 FLC DECLARES AN EMER AND LANDS AFTER SMELLING SMOKE APPARENTLY CAUSED BY AN AVIONICS COOLING FAN.

Narrative: AT CRUISE, I SMELLED AN ELECTRICAL ODOR. THE FLT ATTENDANTS ALSO SMELLED IT, AND STATED THAT IT WAS WORSE IN THE AFT CABIN. I SUBSEQUENTLY GOT AN EQUIP COOLING OVERHEAD LIGHT AND EICAS MESSAGE. WE RAN THE APPROPRIATE CHKLIST AND WHEN 'ALTN' WAS SELECTED ON THE EQUIP TOOLING PANEL, THE ELECTRICAL SMELL GOT WORSE IN THE COCKPIT. I DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED TO KMEM. AFTER CLRING THE RWY AND CONFERRING WITH THE FIRE MARSHALL, I TAXIED TO THE GATE. THE FIRE MARSHAL INSPECTED THE ACFT VISUALLY AND WITH AN INFRARED SENSOR. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE ACFT AND NO INJURIES TO ANY CREW MEMBER OR PAX.
