At 17000 ft, brought engines to idle to begin descent. Left engine made loud humming noise, then wound down, egt rose rapidly. Completed appropriate checklists, secured engine. Diverted to dtw. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the cause of the left engine loss of power is unknown as maintenance has not released any details or findings.
